Dispel Magic is the quintessential abjuration spell, capable of neutralizing magical effects across a wide spectrum. It can be cast on incoming spells, active spells, magic-enhanced poisons, and even magical items at higher levels. The spell's potency increases with the caster's level, allowing for more powerful and wide-reaching dispelling effects.
Basic Mechanics
- Target: Incoming spell, active spell, magic-enhanced poison, magical item, area
- Effect: If the Dispel Magic is stronger, the target magical effect dissipates immediately
- Resolution: Caster Level Check: 1d20 + CL vs 1d20 + CL or 10 + CL (defender chooses)
Special Rules for Magical Items
- Arcane magic-enchanted items are harder to dispel due to gold binding arcane magic particles
- Psychic or Nature magic-enchanted items have half the dispel penalty
- Disrupting an item for one round: Dispel DC is 25% harder
- Permanently dispelling an item: Dispel DC is 50% harder
Area Dispel Penalty
- When using area-based dispel, the Dispel DC becomes 10% harder
- This penalty stacks with other penalties (e.g., for magical items)
Spell Scaling
| Spell Level | Effects |

| 3 | • Dispel a single spell effect (incoming spell, an active spell on a target creature) |

| 7 | • Remove all magic from a magic item permanently (Dispel DC is 50% harder) • Cancel all magic items in the area for one round (25% harder) |
| 9 | • Remove all magic from magic items in the area (10% + 50% penalty) • Remove all spell effects in the area (10% penalty) • Permanently remove all traces of magic (useful against divination spells) |
