Dispel Magic is the quintessential abjuration spell, capable of neutralizing magical effects across a wide spectrum. It can be cast on incoming spells, active spells, magic-enhanced poisons, and even magical items at higher levels. The spell's potency increases with the caster's level, allowing for more powerful and wide-reaching dispelling effects.

Basic Mechanics

  • Target: Incoming spell, active spell, magic-enhanced poison, magical item, area
  • Effect: If the Dispel Magic is stronger, the target magical effect dissipates immediately
  • Resolution: Caster Level Check: 1d20 + CL vs 1d20 + CL or 10 + CL (defender chooses)

Special Rules for Magical Items

  • Arcane magic-enchanted items are harder to dispel due to gold binding arcane magic particles
  • Psychic or Nature magic-enchanted items have half the dispel penalty
  • Disrupting an item for one round: Dispel DC is 25% harder
  • Permanently dispelling an item: Dispel DC is 50% harder

Area Dispel Penalty

  • When using area-based dispel, the Dispel DC becomes 10% harder
  • This penalty stacks with other penalties (e.g., for magical items)
