Gold Seal
You have to spend more and earn more — Marcus Crassus
Gold Seal feeds gold into Dispel Magic. Rather than tearing a defeated spell apart, the metal closes around its magic and holds it inside a permanent golden cage. This is essentially the same magic used to bind a permanent enchantment, turned toward containing a spell instead.
When casting Dispel Magic, the caster may spend one additional level 6 Gold Seal slot and consume one of the amounts below. Add the corresponding bonus to the Dispel check. Use Dispel Magic for the action, target, range, spell slot and check.
| Gold Consumed | Bonus to Dispel Check |
|---|---|
| 25,000 | +5 |
| 50,000 | +10 |
| 100,000 | +15 |
| 200,000 | +20 |
| 400,000 | +25 |
| 800,000 | +30 |
When Gold Seal succeeds against a spell, the consumed gold fuses into a solid object and the spell remains imprisoned inside it. Record the cage's Item CL as the caster's CL plus the purchased bonus. The d20 result decides whether Gold Seal captures the spell; it does not increase the cage's Item CL.
The imprisoned spell can be released by casting Dispel Magic on the golden cage and permanently destroying its enchantment under the normal rules for magic items. Use the recorded Item CL as the cage's defense. When the enchantment is destroyed, the captured spell is released.
For example, a CL 20 caster who buys the +30 bonus casts Gold Seal at an effective CL of 50. If the check captures a CL 40 Fireball, the resulting cage is a permanent magic item with Item CL 50. Releasing the Fireball requires a Dispel Magic capable of permanently destroying that CL 50 enchantment.
Marcus Crassus once caught Aldor's Fireball in a storm of coins. The gold fused around the spell and fell as a solid sphere before the fire could reach him.
