Epic Levitate

Raise a city upon a permanent foundation of magic

Available Levels
10

Epic Levitate creates a permanent foundation of magic beneath a structure or landmass. It can raise a castle, a mountain, an island, or an entire city, provided the chosen target is one contiguous mass no larger than 10 kilometers in radius per Caster Level. Everything resting upon that mass rises with it.

The spell keeps its target level and stable. Buildings experience the support as solid ground, and weight placed upon them is distributed throughout the magical foundation. Even Colossal creatures cannot overload it. Loose creatures and objects are carried normally but are not fastened to the surface.

Raising the City

When casting, the caster chooses an altitude. The target rises or descends toward it at a maximum speed of 5 ft per Caster Level each round, then remains motionless without concentration or upkeep.

A creature that knows Epic Levitate and stands upon the supported mass may concentrate on the spell to raise or lower it at the same speed. When concentration stops, the mass immediately holds its current altitude. The spell provides no horizontal movement.

Impacts and Damage

The magical foundation yields and reinforces itself against vertical impacts. A landing or falling object cannot punch through the levitation effect merely through weight. The spell does not make the city or its buildings indestructible: collisions can still shatter stone, topple towers, crush creatures, or damage whatever lies above or below, as the GM judges from the masses and speed involved.

The target cannot move through a solid obstacle. Its movement stops when it meets one, though the collision may damage either mass. A section physically broken away from the supported land or structure loses the spell's support and falls normally.

Dispel

Epic Levitate remains an active magical effect despite its permanent duration. A successful Dispel Magic ends the entire casting. The magical foundation vanishes, and the unsupported mass falls. No spell slot or daily upkeep is required after the original casting.
