Forget
Takes a stretch of time out of a mind, and lets the world keep it
Forget removes a continuous stretch of recent time from a creature's memory. The victim feels no gap; the remaining hours close together and the mind carries on.
Two durations govern the spell:
- The window is the amount of recent time erased. It ends at the moment of casting, and the caster may erase less than the maximum.
- The hold is how long the memory remains gone. When it ends, the whole memory returns at once.
Spell Scaling
| Spell Level | Window erased | The forgetting holds |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | up to 1 minute per caster level | 1 day |
| 4 | up to 1 minute per caster level | 1 day per caster level |
| 6 | up to 1 hour per caster level | 1 day per caster level |
| 8 | up to 1 day per caster level | 1 week per caster level |
| 10 | up to 1 day per caster level | permanent |
Breaking and Hiding the Spell
Dispel Magic restores the memory at every level, including permanent castings, on the ordinary caster level check. The victim then remembers everything, including the casting.
Detect Magic reveals the enchantment. Magic Aura hides it and is permanent from level 3.
What Remains
The victim forgets, but the world does not. Red mana still holds the spell memory of a place, so a divination of the past reveals the erased hours. Hiding an event from both a witness and a place requires Forget and Wipe.
Bodies and objects also remain. A wound has no remembered cause; a purse is still empty. The more time the spell removes, the harder the absence is to ignore.
Psychic and Alchemical Castings
A Psychic casting reaches the mind directly. An alchemical dose needs no line of sight, only that the victim drink it. The Will Save is made when the memory disappears, not when the cup is emptied.
