Disarray

Each second, one thing the victim meant to do is not there

Available Levels
13

Disarray breaks the order of a creature's intentions. A hand fails to move, a word vanishes from a formula or the body forgets to dodge. The victim is not paralyzed; one kind of action simply becomes unavailable each tick.

The creature makes a Will Save when the spell reaches it. On a failure, the spell lasts for its full duration with no further Save.

The Roll

At the start of each tick, before actions are declared, the victim rolls. The result determines what it cannot use during that tick.

Roll Denied for the tick
1 Attacks and parries, since a parry spends an attack token
2 Spells
3 General actions
4 Dedicated dodges, if the caster chose to include them

The victim spends no token or slot for the denied category and may use the rest of its Action Board normally. A result it did not intend to use has no effect.

At level 3, the caster chooses 1d3 or 1d4 when casting the spell. Choosing 1d4 adds dedicated dodges to the possible results. The same die applies to every target for the full duration, though each target rolls separately.

If a denied action interrupts something already begun, resolve it normally: for example, rolling a 2 during the second tick of a Standard spell causes the action to be lost. Anything already spent, including the spell slot, is not refunded. A 1 denies both attacks and parries for that tick.

Spell Scaling

Spell Level Die Targets Duration
1 1d3 one creature 2 rounds
3 1d3 or 1d4, the caster's choice one creature per caster level 3 rounds

Each target makes its own Will Save and, on a failure, its own roll at the start of every tick.

Alchemical Casting

The alchemical preparation is thrown rather than drunk. The vial travels up to 30 ft and bursts in a 30 ft radius, increased to 60 ft at level 3. Every creature in the burst becomes a target.

At level 3, an alchemist who throws the vial by hand is inside its 60 ft burst. The alchemist makes their Will Save with Advantage when caught in their own burst; every other creature saves normally.
