Elemental Wall

Turn a known elemental spell into a lasting wall

Available Levels
246810

Elemental Wall turns a known elemental spell into a fixed, lasting surface. Fire becomes a curtain of flame, acid hangs in a caustic sheet, stone rises from the ground and wind screams along an invisible boundary.

Powering the Wall

The caster chooses an elemental spell they know at least one level below Elemental Wall and spends both spell slots. A level 6 Acid Wall can therefore use Acid Splash 5, spending one level 6 slot and one level 5 slot. The lower spell is called the source spell.

The wall borrows the source spell's element, damage per caster level and effects that normally follow that damage. It does not copy the source's range, projectiles, number of areas or duration. A creature can suffer the wall's damage and secondary effect no more than once per tick, however often it crosses the surface. DR, resistance and immunity apply normally.

The caster shapes one continuous wall, curve, ring or dome within Medium range. Its complete surface must fit within the size in the table, and it cannot begin inside a creature or solid object. The wall is fixed once created.

What the Element Creates

Energy, liquid or gas. A creature or object that touches or crosses the wall, or begins a tick within it, receives the source spell's damage and accompanying effect. If the source can move creatures, crossing the wall uses the same resistance. Failure leaves the creature on the side it entered.

Solid matter. A source such as Hurl Rock creates a solid wall that blocks movement and attacks. Use the source spell's hardness and HP per caster level for the entire wall. Touching it deals no damage. If the source creates matter for longer than Elemental Wall's normal duration, the solid wall uses the source's duration instead.

Wind Wall

Tempest Gale creates a wall of violent wind. A creature crossing it takes Tempest Gale damage and resists the wind under that spell's normal movement rules. On a failure, it cannot cross.

The wall deflects projectiles smaller than the largest creature that the source Tempest Gale can move. Compare the projectile rather than the weapon: a Medium longbow fires Small arrows, while a Large bow fires Medium arrows. Sound passing through the wall becomes muffled and difficult to understand.
