Vampire
Medium magical beast—fast, regenerating, near-immortal, and not undead
A vampire is not undead. It is a living magical beast powered by blue mana: it breathes, eats, has a Constitution and a Fortitude Save, can be poisoned, and Heal mends it. Its body is extraordinarily fast, strong, and difficult to damage faster than it regenerates.
Where They Come From
The first vampire was Vlad Varanov, transformed by a desperate curse after being condemned for Commode Telus's crimes (see 9).
Vampires can reproduce with humans. Their child is either human or vampire; there is no guarantee which. Born vampires carry no spell and cannot be dispelled. Vlad, and any vampire created by magic, still carries the spell that transformed them.
Origin does not limit power. Born and transformed vampires use the same progression and unlock the same powers. A born vampire such as Ivana Varanov can become as powerful as Vlad.
Vampire
The table uses the vampire's own level. Values marked XX come from that table.
Vampire, Medium magical beast Speed: XX ft per tick HP: XX per point of Strength DR: XX Saves: Reflex DC +25%, Fortitude DC +25%, Will DC Attributes: +XX Strength, +XX Dexterity
Attacks:
- Claws: XXd8 + Strength
- Fangs: XXd8 + Strength, and the vampire feeds (see Blood Is the Meditation)
Regeneration The vampire recovers XX% of its maximum HP every round without spending an action. It can regenerate up to 300% of its maximum HP per day. Once this reserve is spent, it recovers only 1% per round until the reserve returns.
| Level | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | 10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rounds at full regeneration | 150 | 60 | 30 | 20 | 15 | 12 |
Restoring the Reserve The reserve returns after seven days or after drinking a great quantity of human blood, far more than a feeding used to restore spell slots.
Valerium Stops It Valerium suppresses regeneration while it touches the vampire or remains in a wound. It is also toxic to the vampire, as it is to any non-dwarf (see 14). Blood Trap offers another way to stop its regeneration.
Blood Is the Meditation A full feeding on blood restores spell slots as a night of meditation would (see 4).
Near-Immortal A vampire does not age or sicken, but damage, decapitation, and Valerium can kill it.
Blue Powers Its psychic powers cost spell slots and require neither speech nor gesture.
