Fire Elemental

Medium to Huge Psychic elemental—summon and polymorph template

A Fire Elemental is a Psychic monster whose body is made entirely of living flame. Like every elemental, it forms where excess magical particles accumulate around a single element. It fights like a fast warrior rather than a massive dragon: it closes distance quickly, turns its limbs into weapons, and carries only a small list of instinctive fire spells.

Its first profile becomes available with Summon or Polymorph Level 2. Nearby fire can make the transformation or creation faster through Elemental Affinity, but does not strengthen the finished body.

Fire Elemental (Polymorph & Summon Template)

Choose a known profile whose listed level is no higher than the level of Summon or Polymorph actually cast. Generate its body from the locked Spell DC; see Magical Creature Templates.

The Fire Elemental uses the standard Ground Speed generated by DEX. It has no hands in the humanoid sense, but can shape its limbs around simple objects, seize a creature, open an ordinary door, or carry something that will not burn. Fine tools and complex mechanisms remain beyond it.

Flame Body

The Fire Elemental needs no air, food, drink, or sleep. It cannot be poisoned, diseased, made to bleed, or suffocated. It is immune to fire at every level, but it has a mind and can be affected by mental attacks. Polymorph grants all these physical traits.

Cold damage against it is increased by 50%. If water comparable to its body completely drenches or immerses it, reduce its Ground Speed and Flame Weapon damage by 25%, and Flame Contact stops working until the end of the following round. Water does not otherwise deal automatic damage.

Ordinary healing magic meant for living flesh cannot restore this body. The elemental recovers 10% of its maximum HP per minute.

A nonpermanent summoned elemental dissipates when Summon ends or it is destroyed. A permanent Fire Elemental leaves inert ash, scorched stone, and vitrified debris.

Attacks

Attack Level 2 Level 4 Level 6 Level 8 Level 10
Flame Weapon 1d10 + higher of STR or DEX 2d10 + higher of STR or DEX 3d10 + higher of STR or DEX 4d10 + higher of STR or DEX 5d10 + higher of STR or DEX

The elemental shapes a fist, blade, claw, or tendril. The shape is descriptive. All damage is fire damage, and DR protects normally.

Flame Contact. Once per round, a creature grappling the elemental or maintaining direct physical contact with its body takes one Flame Weapon attack. This requires no action from the elemental. DR applies normally.

Psychic Racial Spells

These spells are Psychic when cast by a Fire Elemental and require neither speech nor gesture. The list is cumulative.

Racial spell Level 2 Level 4 Level 6 Level 8 Level 10
Incinerate 2 4 6 8 10
Fire Grip 4 6 8 8
Immolation 6 8 10
Fireball 7 9

A summoned Fire Elemental uses the innate spell-slot reserve granted by Summon. The caster can give it additional slots during creation, and Spell Conduit can provide more afterward.

A creature using Polymorph learns these racial spells but gains no second reserve. Every casting spends one of the transformed creature's real spell slots.

Mind

A Fire Elemental possesses a mind, understands and speaks every language, and knows its own body and racial spells. It never communicates through telepathy, including through Summon's Psychic communication. A summoned elemental begins with the fresh consciousness described by Summon. Its intelligence and experience still limit its interpretation of orders. A caster using Polymorph retains their own mind.
