Ferothar

Ferothar the Fierce is a Red Dragon Great Wyrm whose homeland is unknown to Cerberus. His strength made him the central weapon of Cauchemar during the Nightmare War.

Dream magic cannot put a dragon to sleep, so Cauchemar could not control Ferothar directly. He used sleeping beholders instead. Their domination turned Ferothar's eyes an unnatural glacial blue and forced him to fight for a creature he would otherwise have threatened.

Ferothar opened the assault by striking Gyllyn Leblanc with his fire breath. Armure restored Gyllyn, but the same fire later burned the capital. The barriers raised by Cerberus's great families protected only part of the city. Perennus Albion eventually drove Ferothar away, leaving the dragon wounded and missing many scales.

Cauchemar kept him under partial control through Qormuza. When the heroes awoke from Phantasm, Gyllyn seized one of Ferothar's horns and threw the wounded dragon into Cauchemar. Aldor then killed Qormuza and broke the domination.

Ferothar looked toward the humans who had freed him. His words sounded like compressed smoke: I thank you, humans. Until another day, perhaps. Then he teleported away. Cauchemar survived the battle, but now counted Ferothar the Fierce among the threats waiting for him.
