Battlefield

Creates a chaotic and glorious battlefield

Available Levels
10

Battlefield creates an arena worthy of legendary combat. Each round, enchanted weapons of every kind and size—from Small to Colossal—rain across it. Each has the +64 bonus of a level 9 Enchant and a 50% chance to carry each of these enchantments.

  • Flaming: attacks deal an additional CL × 1d6 fire damage, and the wielder gains 25% resistance against Illusion spells.
  • Frost: attacks deal an additional CL × 1d6 damage and reduce the target's Speed by 50% and Reflex Checks by 25% for one round.
  • Deadly Keen: the critical multiplier increases by 1, and attacks gain CL × 1 damage.
  • Lightning: attacks deal an additional CL × 1d6 lightning damage. The wielder becomes 25% faster and gains 25% to Reflex Checks.
  • Reach: increase reach by +5 ft, then double it. The weapon automatically cleaves every enemy within reach without stopping when armor or a parry blocks an earlier strike. Attacks also gain CL × 2 damage.

The Arena

The caster chooses the landscape when casting. It replaces the area's ground, structures, weather, and light for the duration, even where the setting should be impossible. Underground, the spell can create open country beneath a sky. It creates real matter, not an illusion: its ground can be dug, its buildings broken, and its objects seized.

Aldor the Infernal once turned an Underdark cavern into June pasture, with scattered farmhouses and a summer sun. His opponents waited for the landscape to attack. It never did.

Battlefield Effects

While the battlefield remains active:

  • For each worthy opponent wielding one of its weapons, the caster gains +10% maximum CL, +10% maximum damage, and +50% maximum HP. A creature wielding several weapons counts once for each weapon.
  • No creature can leave by any means without a Will Save made with a 25% penalty. Teleportation, planar travel, and invisibility fail within the area. The caster can leave without a save.

Caster Actions

The caster can perform the following actions:

  • Force a creature to take the nearest weapon within 30 ft, provided it is no larger than the creature. On a failed Will Save, the creature must wield that weapon whenever it uses a weapon for the rest of the spell.
  • Drop a randomly sized weapon onto a creature. On a failed Reflex Check, the weapon hits automatically and deals physical and magical damage according to its size:
Weapon size Physical damage
Small 1 per CL
Medium 5 per CL
Large 10 per CL
Huge 20 per CL
Gargantuan 30 per CL
Colossal 40 per CL

All weapons created by Battlefield disappear when the spell ends.

Origin

Aldor created Battlefield inside Gérard Alois's Time Sphere, after Fleur de Bataille taught him to hold mana steady at epic scale.

Cauchemar later stole the spell from Aldor through a Phantasm while wearing Fleur de Bataille. His version created a small dark world strewn with weapons from every era and race; each one fed him when lifted.
