Ask the Dead wakes a corpse long enough to speak. The dead retain their mind and memories but remain paralyzed. They are not compelled: they may answer, argue, refuse, or lie.
The spell works only once on a given body. The corpse can be dead for no more days than the caster's caster level, as with Faint Current (see 3). Preserve extends this window; older minds require Undead Resurrection.
