Earth Elemental

Medium to Colossal Psychic elemental—summon and polymorph template

An Earth Elemental is a Psychic monster formed where excess magical particles gather in earth or stone. It grows through mass rather than speed. Even a young elemental can stop a passage; an ancient one becomes part of the landscape. See Elementals for the origin, language, and behavior shared by the species.

Earth Elementals recognize Perennus Albion as one of their lords. Their first profile becomes available with Summon or Polymorph Level 2.

Earth Elemental (Polymorph & Summon Template)

Choose a known profile whose listed level is no higher than the level of Summon or Polymorph actually cast. Generate its body from the locked Spell DC; see Magical Creature Templates.

The Earth Elemental uses the standard Ground Speed generated by DEX. Its hands can seize, carry, grapple, break, and operate simple heavy objects. Its massive fingers cannot perform fine work.

Body of Earth

The Earth Elemental needs no air, food, drink, or sleep. It cannot be poisoned, diseased, made to bleed, or suffocated. It is immune to acid at every level, but it has a mind and can be affected by mental attacks. Polymorph grants all these physical traits.

While any part of its body touches natural earth or stone, it recovers 10% of its maximum HP per round. Separating it completely from the ground stops this healing until contact returns. Ordinary healing magic meant for living flesh cannot restore it.

A nonpermanent summoned elemental dissipates when Summon ends or it is destroyed. A permanent Earth Elemental collapses into real earth and stone.

Earth Movement

The elemental burrows without leaving a tunnel. At Level 2 it moves through soil, sand, clay, and other loose earth. At Level 4 it can enter natural rock; at Level 6 it can also cross worked stone. Metal and Valerium always block this movement.

While surrounded by earth or stone, the elemental senses contact and vibration but cannot see beyond the material. It can emerge, attack, and return underground using its normal movement and actions.

Attacks

Attack Level 2 Level 4 Level 6 Level 8 Level 10
Stone Fist 1d12 + STR 2d12 + STR 3d12 + STR 4d12 + STR 5d12 + STR

Groundbreaker. Once per round, the elemental can replace one attack with a blow against the ground. Every other creature standing within its Reach takes 60% of Stone Fist damage and falls prone on a failed Reflex Save against the locked Spell DC. A creature not touching the same ground is unaffected.

Psychic Racial Spells

These spells are Psychic when cast by an Earth Elemental and require neither speech nor gesture. The list is cumulative.

Racial spell Level 2 Level 4 Level 6 Level 8 Level 10
Hurl Rock 1 3 5 7 9
Telekinesis 2 4 6 8 10
Stone and Flesh 4 6 8 8

Telekinesis. The elemental can target only earth, stone, and objects made primarily from them. For the spell's size and swarm limits, these targets count as two size categories smaller than their true size. Every other Telekinesis rule remains unchanged.

A summoned Earth Elemental uses the innate spell-slot reserve granted by Summon. The caster can give it additional slots during creation, and Spell Conduit can provide more afterward.

A creature using Polymorph learns these racial spells but gains no second reserve. Every casting spends one of the transformed creature's real spell slots.

Mind

An Earth Elemental possesses a mind, understands and speaks every language, and knows its own body and racial spells. It never communicates through telepathy, including through Summon's Psychic communication. Its goals remain simple even after centuries of life. A summoned elemental begins with the fresh consciousness described by Summon. A caster using Polymorph retains their own mind.
