Cancel
Restore the world to a previous state
Cancel restores part of the world to a state the caster personally observed. Bodies close, the dead breathe again, shattered objects return to one piece and broken enchantments resume their former shape. The chosen state can be no more than 1 round per caster level in the past.
Choose one of two modes within Far range.
Scene. Restore everything within a radius of up to 10 ft per caster level. The scene includes its creatures, objects, terrain and magical effects, including things destroyed or removed since the chosen moment.
Selection. Restore up to one named creature, object or magical effect per caster level. Every target must be something the caster can identify with certainty.
Each unwilling creature makes a Will Save. On a success, the creature and everything it currently wears or carries remain unchanged. On a failure, it returns with the body, HP, conditions, equipment, position and active magic it possessed at the chosen moment. A creature that was alive then can therefore return from death.
One World, Not Two
Cancel restores existing history; it never creates a duplicate. If a restored object or creature still exists somewhere else, that same thing is brought back or changed rather than copied. Something destroyed can reform, but two versions of it cannot remain after the spell.
Permanent enchantments and magic items can return if the caster observed them in that state. Their material, magic and remaining duration return together, but anything created after the chosen moment disappears or reverts as required to leave one coherent result.
Mana and Memory
Cancel never recreates red mana or a spell slot already spent from that reserve. A caster may target themself and restore their body, HP and equipment, but the slot spent on Cancel and every other expended slot remain spent.
A restored creature would otherwise remember only the earlier state. The caster therefore passes it the relevant portion of their own memory of the canceled events, allowing it to understand what happened and act in the new reality.
