Brazzant

A penal colony that became a people

Brazzant was settled by the Ark's condemned, for a reason that surprises everyone who hears it: Archon's administration decided its worst offenders were not worth killing. It shipped them out instead, on shadow ships that carried a sentence one way. Brazzant was chosen over Cerberus because it was the less dangerous of the two. It had no giants.

Cerberus draws it from the sea: see the Brazzant map.

Centuries later the exiles are a people of barbarians, hunters and fishers who still speak the language of the Ark, six centuries out of date and never written down. They have no system of magic. The power is in their blood as it is in every human, but without a method they can only express it crudely.

What they sell is meat, and what they send is warriors. The clans supplied both to the war against the Ark. Their chiefs run warbands, and a Cerberan expedition to Brazzant is a trading trip conducted at spear-point.

The island is also where Cerberus went shopping for children. Perennus Albion left a village there with its surviving young after killing the chief who tried to buy him; Marcin Sobiesansky implanted an Aboleth's cerebriles into them. Most died. Six became the first Cerberan Psychics.

In the Free Era the island answers to Einar.
