Le Minotaure

He should have been Tiberius Telus, son of Hector Telus and Olga Varanov, and heir to two of the Ark's houses. His mother spent her labor learning who had destroyed her family, and laid a desperate curse on the child she was carrying: kill your father, and every Telus after him.

He obeyed within the minute. His head became a bull's head in his father's arms, and a crushing weight took the man apart where he stood. He nearly killed his uncle too, and only stopped because Antoine de Cerberus came down out of the sky. Running on instinct, he recognized what he could not beat and left through a wall.

He spent the rest of his life under Telus Island, in a labyrinth of his own making. Its walls rebuild themselves faster than they can be broken, its air will not let a creature fly, and it turns teleportation back on the caster. He hoarded treasure and stole beautiful women to keep, and he searched for his own origins with divination and captives for as long as he searched for anything. His journals are the only reason the ruin of the Varanov is known in full.

To the people of Telus he was a legend and the sworn enemy of the censor's house. He killed Frolix and took Aldor's companions apart before he fell, and the men who brought out his head were declared blessed by Archon for it.

He destroyed Gyllyn's enchanted rapiers in that fight, which sent the swordsman back to the plain steel pair a dwarf had forged him years earlier and he had never thrown away. Everything those blades became afterward dates from the day the Minotaur broke the ones that came before.
