Animate Weapon

The weapon no longer needs a hand to wield it

Available Levels
123

Animate Weapon brings one weapon to life. The weapon flies at 10 ft per tick and attacks without using the caster's actions or requiring concentration. Its spell level determines how often it attacks.

Spell Level Attacks per Round
1 1
2 2
3 3—one during every tick

The weapon makes its first attack when the casting completes. Each remaining attack for that round occurs during a different subsequent tick. In later rounds, the caster chooses which ticks it attacks; one weapon cannot attack more than once during the same tick.

When casting, the caster designates a target they perceive. They may designate a new target they perceive as a Free action. The weapon follows and attacks that target as well as its Speed permits. Without a valid target, it remains near the caster. It cannot scout, interpret complex orders, or perform actions other than moving and attacking.

Attacks

Resolve each strike as a normal attack with that weapon. It can be dodged or parried, rolls normally for critical hits, and applies DR separately on every strike. For Reflex duels, the weapon uses the caster's Reflex modifier locked when the spell is cast.

The attack deals the weapon's normal dice and applies its quality, material, enchantment, critical multiplier, and other relevant properties. It adds the caster's caster level to damage, but adds no Strength or Dexterity.

Multiple Weapons

Each casting animates one weapon and spends its own spell slot. A caster may have up to one animated weapon per point of Intelligence at a time. Animating another beyond that limit ends the caster's oldest Animate Weapon. Each weapon moves and attacks independently.

An animated weapon remains an object. It can be intercepted, trapped, damaged, destroyed, or affected by magic normally. If Telekinesis attempts to seize it, treat the caster of Animate Weapon as its current controller under Telekinesis's contested-control rule.

Caster-Level Scaling

Caster level determines only the largest weapon that one casting can animate.

Caster Level Maximum Weapon Size
1–2 Small
3–8 Medium
9–13 Large
14–19 Huge
20–29 Gargantuan
30+ Colossal
