Human of the Ark

Before the Partage, the Ark was a Republic. It had a Senate, powerful families, and censors—Telus, Sylla, Crassus—whose names remain on the islands and peninsulas they once controlled. This was the Golden Age of Wizards. Sorcery gained ground against the old religions while corruption and struggles for power fractured the Republic. In the Central Ark, an eccentric hermit named Archon lived in seclusion, obsessed with his research and gathering his first disciples. No one expected him to become a god.

Human of Cerberus

The people of Cerberus are expatriates from the Ark and their descendants. Fleeing the Partage, they carried original sorcery with them: red mana, a system developed largely by Archon, their sworn enemy.

HUMAN · 03

Human of Brazzant

Brazzant was settled long ago by criminals from the Ark, for a surprising reason: Archon's administration decided that some people were not worth killing. Rather than execute its worst offenders it shipped them out, aboard shadow ships — magical warships that carried a sentence one way. Brazzant was chosen over Cerberus because it was the less dangerous of the two: it had no giants.

DROW · 04

Drow

Drows are a people of the Underdark who practice Psychic magic. The power is highly stable and very hard to renew: it returns only through meditation, at 10% of the reserve per hour on the surface and 20% below it, and never more than half a reserve in a day (see #). A drow recharges faster at home, and never as fast as a Cerberus human. Emptying a drow costs it two days.

DWARF · 05

Dwarf of Askenon

Askenon is a continent, and every dwarven kingdom stands on it: Kaz'Nakaram, Kaz'Baba of the mithril under King Varin, Kaz'Valah. Dwarves say on Askenon the way other peoples say on the mainland, which has confused more than one human cartographer.

KAER · 06

Kaer of Salk

The Kaer are a conquering Psychic people from the planet Salk. Tall and elf-like, they are energetic, ambitious, and accustomed to judging a foreign land by what can be taken from it. Wealth, slaves, territory, and the prestige of opening a new world are enough to finance an expedition.
