Creature

Zombie

Medium undead, Raise Undead template—slower than the skeleton, but relentless and contagious

A zombie is a corpse that still carries flesh. It is stronger and far tougher than a skeleton. It advances with a heavy gait, absorbs blows that would fell a living person, and keeps coming after wounds that would end anyone. Devouring flesh repairs its body. Where skeletons form brittle swarms, zombies form an advancing wall.

A Medium creature, the zombie becomes available with Raise Undead at Level 5.

Zombie (Raise Undead Template)

In this template, “DC” means the necromancer's spell DC. Values marked XX are variable: multiply the table value by caster level. The columns are indexed by the level of the Raise Undead spell.

Zombie, Medium undead
Speed: XX ft
HP: XX
DR: XX
Saves: Reflex DC −50%, Fortitude—none, Will—no mind (body magic opposes the DC)

Attacks:

  • Heavy Blows: Base damage 1d8+XX
  • Bite: Base damage 1d6+XX

Undead Nature An undead; see 3.

Standing Orders A zombie follows only the simple, permanent orders of its necromancer (see Raise Undead).

Slow and Clumsy A zombie is even stiffer than a skeleton. It dodges and parries very poorly, as represented by Reflex DC −50%, and compensates only by striking hard and enduring punishment. It has no attack roll or AC: its blows land unless dodged or parried, and it defends itself with its Reflex Save + DR.

Healing Flesh By devouring animal or human flesh, the zombie recovers HP. The GM determines the amount according to the meal. This is its only natural regeneration.
