Vorac

Vorac was the alchemist of Vlad Castle. He claimed to have taken over its arcane work after Marcin Sobiesansky fled, and kept a hidden laboratory beside the castle dungeons. Prisoners disappeared into it before the end of their sentences.

He moved nervously, wore clothes stained with acid, and carried burns and suppurating pustules across his forearms and forehead. Vorac treated those wounds as the ordinary price of becoming a good alchemist. Other people paid a greater one.

Vorac drew blood from prisoners and said it was destined for Alfred Varanov. His experiments included unstable potions meant to sharpen the mind and mutations that reshaped human flesh into an ogre-like body. Several subjects died insane. Adrion survived, but his body remained altered long after his imprisonment.

Vorac used the same work on himself. A potion could swell his arms to an ogre's strength, and his final transformation carried him through the flames consuming his laboratory. Vidock shot him twice in the head before Ivana beheaded him. Aldor burned the laboratory, its books, and almost all of Vorac's research with him.

Alfred later thanked the apprentices for stopping his alchemist and condemned the mutations they uncovered. Whether he knew how Vorac obtained his results is not established.
