Igor Varanov

Son of Alfred Varanov and younger twin of Ivana. Grandson of Vlad. His sister is the one who insisted their father let them attend the Academy; Igor came with her.

Igor was not born a vampire. His father is one, his sister is one, and he is not — and where Ivana got strength, speed and regeneration for nothing, Igor is reputed frail and sickly and behaves like it: pale, silent, standing a little back from whatever is happening. A demonstration that impressed the rest of the class left him terrified.

His magic is cold and close: he took Chill Touch while Ivana took Telekinesis. Jeanne and Jean Morin singled him out with Vidock when they took over teaching the class, and his progress was one of the reasons they split the students between them.

What he actually does, he does out of sight of the great houses. He left the Academy dressed as an explorer rather than a wizard, with Vidock and Aldor, because the three of them needed money badly. He is the one who was not displeased when everyone else was.
