Evocation
Obscuring Mist
A shroud of thick, supernatural mist manifests, obscuring vision and turning the area into a treacherous fog bank.

Obscuring Mist creates a dense, otherworldly fog that reduces sight to 5 feet. Toward anything farther than that, a creature is effectively Blinded (see the conditions chapter): it can neither dodge nor parry a blow it never saw coming, and its own attacks against a target more than 5 feet away — thrown, shot, or swung — must be resolved with a prescribed-chance roll to strike true. Two creatures within 5 feet of each other still see and fight normally; the mist is a curtain, not a blindfold.
Moving Through Mist
- Characters in the mist must move at half speed or risk falling prone
- The mist is damp and cold, potentially affecting certain types of equipment or materials
- Tracking through the mist is extremely difficult, requiring specialized skills or magic
Countering Obscuring Mist
- Wind Effects
- Natural or magical wind of sufficient strength can disperse the mist
- Powerful wind spells automatically dispel areas of Obscuring Mist
- Sustained winds gradually thin and eventually disperse the effect
- Extreme Heat
- Fire spells of equal or higher level can evaporate sections of the mist
- Areas of intense heat cause the mist to rise and dissipate
