Gaseous Form
Become a living cloud and flow through the smallest opening
Gaseous Form transforms a willing creature and everything it wears or carries into a visible cloud of vapor. The cloud retains the creature's mind, senses, HP, Will, and awareness of its surroundings.
The gaseous creature can fly, hover, and flow through any opening that air could cross: bars, keyholes, ventilation grilles, narrow cracks, and similar passages. It cannot pass through solid matter, an airtight seal, or a magical Barrier. Wind moves the creature as it would ordinary smoke and can push it away or prevent it from advancing.
While gaseous, the creature cannot attack, cast spells, speak, manipulate objects, drink a potion, or activate equipment. Everything transformed with it remains present but cannot be used, and none of its equipment provides DR or another active effect.
The form has no solid anatomy. Ordinary weapons and physical projectiles pass through it without dealing damage. It cannot be grappled, restrained, poisoned, made to bleed, or suffocated. Mental effects still reach its mind, and magic or environmental effects capable of damaging or dispersing a cloud affect it normally.
The spell creates no room for the returning body. If the transformation ends inside a pipe, wall cavity, or another space too small to contain it, the normal physical consequences apply.
Spell Scaling
| Version | Access | Fly Speed per Tick | Duration per Caster Level | Returning to Normal Form |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lesser | Alchemy Level 2; Arcane Level 3 | 5 ft × CL | 1 round | General action, 1 tick |
| Greater | Alchemy Level 3; Arcane Level 4 | 10 ft × CL | 1 minute | Immediate; no action or tick |
Greater Gaseous Form
The greater version allows the creature to return to its normal form instantly, including during its movement. Its equipment becomes available again immediately, and it may attack during the same tick. With enough available actions under Reactive Combat, a character can use the spell to let an incoming attack pass through their gaseous body, re-form immediately, and strike back.
If the vapor was not recognized as a creature or suspected as a threat, the first attack after re-forming follows the normal rules for an undetected attacker: the target cannot dodge or parry, and the attack becomes a critical hit. Recognizing the gaseous creature prevents this advantage but does not prevent the transformation.
