Fire Decoy
Leave an explosive double behind
Fire Decoy leaves an illusory double of each target at the place where the spell is cast. A decoy looks, sounds and moves like the creature it copies. It can repeat a short action or follow a simple instruction chosen during casting, but it cannot leave the spell's range or affect anything physically.
The spell does not conceal or move its targets. It is commonly cast at the same moment as Invisibility, allowing the real creatures to disappear while their doubles appear to remain behind.
A creature that observes or interacts with a decoy makes a Will Save under the normal rules for illusions. Recognising the illusion reveals that the double is false, but does not remove it or suppress the fire within it.
When another creature touches a decoy or strikes it with an attack, the image collapses and explodes. The creature that triggered it and everything within the listed radius take fire damage. An attack made from outside the radius still destroys the decoy safely. A decoy that is dispelled or expires disappears without exploding.
Progression
| Level | Decoys | Maximum copied size | Explosion radius | Fire damage per CL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | Medium | 10 ft | 1d12 |
| 4 | 2 | Large | 20 ft | 2d12 |
| 6 | 4 | Huge | 30 ft | 4d12 |
| 8 | 8 | Gargantuan | 40 ft | 8d12 |
| 10 | 16 | Colossal | 80 ft | 16d12 |
Each decoy must copy a different creature within range when the spell is cast. The caster may create fewer decoys than the spell allows.
