Elemental Resistance

Turn aside an element unless stronger magic breaks through

Available Levels
12345678910

Elemental Resistance wraps one creature in mana that absorbs a chosen element. Choose sound, fire, cold, acid, or electricity when casting the spell. Its spell level and caster level are locked for the duration.

When the target takes damage of the chosen element, compare the source with the protection. The target reduces that damage by 90% if Elemental Resistance has both an equal or higher spell level and an equal or higher caster level. If either value is lower, the protection reduces the damage by 45%, provided its spell level is no more than one level below the source. A protection two or more spell levels below the source has no effect.

An attack that deals several damage types reduces only the chosen element. Ordinary nonmagical sources have neither a spell level nor a caster level and face the full 90% resistance. When a magical or creature ability has no listed values, the GM uses the closest spell or creature profile.

Several resistances against the same element do not stack; apply only the highest reduction.
