Rune of Promise
A weapon that always knows where its hand is
The rune binds an object to one owner. This promise ends only with the owner's death or through a ceremony of transfer.
- On the owner or within a few feet: The weapon appears directly in their hand. No action and no slot; drawing the weapon ceases to exist.
- Within sight or in the same room: The owner calls, and the weapon flies to their hand. This is a general action of 1 tick and requires an open path. A closed chest, a firm grip, or a wall can hold it back.
- At any distance: The owner knows where it is—its direction, approximate distance, and whether it is moving.
With no caster level, the bond cannot be dispelled. Stealing a promised weapon is pointless, as many thieves learn too late. Dwarves use the rune both to recover heirlooms lost for three generations and to keep an axe from disappearing in the snow.
