Rune of Distance

One of Askenon's best-known battle runes. Elders tell of the dwarf Barokar fighting the magical boar of Three Moons Mountain, where the beast died without ever understanding how the axe reached it.

The weapon strikes as a reach weapon. Its threat range extends by 5 ft, allowing it to reach and threaten foes beyond its physical length.

The first attack against an opponent unaware of the rune cannot be dodged or parried. The blow comes from a distance where the weapon should not exist; no one defends against what they believe impossible. This effect works only once per opponent. The second time, they know.

An opponent warned by an ally or who has already seen the weapon in use defends normally from the first blow.
