Colossal Worm

Gargantuan to Colossal magical beast, summon and polymorph template

The colossal worm is a Gargantuan subterranean predator that lives underground and surfaces only to feed. It is blind and hunts through vibrations, making a motionless group invisible and a running group an announced meal. Caravans on the southern roads travel at night, when the ground is cold and the worm sleeps.

Its first profile becomes available with Summon or Polymorph Level 8.

Colossal Worm (Polymorph & Summon Template)

Choose a known profile whose listed level is no higher than the level of Summon or Polymorph actually cast. Generate its body from the locked Spell DC; see Magical Creature Templates.

The worm uses the standard Ground Speed generated by DEX. Its body can dig, shove, coil, grapple, and crush, but has no limbs capable of manipulating objects.

Attacks and Traits

Bite. The worm deals 4d10 + STR at Level 8 and 5d10 + STR at Level 10.

Crush. The worm can replace one attack with a roll across every Medium or smaller creature beneath its body. Each target takes 2d10 + STR, reduced to 60% after calculation.

Swallow Whole. After biting a Large or smaller target, the worm can spend its next attack on a grapple attempt to swallow it. A swallowed target takes Bite damage each tick from crushing and acid, cannot see outside the worm, and must escape from within or break through the wall of its body.

Blind, Not Deaf. The worm has no eyes, so invisibility and darkness do nothing against it. It senses every creature touching the ground within 200 ft. A motionless or flying creature is invisible to this sense.

Burrower. The worm crosses earth and soft rock at its Burrow Speed without leaving a stable tunnel. When it erupts beneath a group, resolve its first attack as an attack from hiding under Perception.

An Animal Mind

A summoned worm understands territory, vibrations, prey, direction, and simple orders about where to dig or what to attack. Higher profiles strengthen its body without increasing its intelligence. A caster using Polymorph retains their own mind.
