Character
Skarde
The most unstable of the six Psychics
Sleepless and in constant mental and physical pain, and assigned to the frontier where that matters least.
He medicated himself with a mushroom that grows in only one place, beside the village of Eden. He took too much of it. He killed the animals first and then one hundred and twenty-eight villagers in their homes, and remembered enough of it afterward to confess the whole thing when a Magic Mouth invited him to come and explain himself.
He was beaten, captured, and not killed. Sobiesansky thanked the men who spared his Psychic and questioned the morals of the one who had wanted to trade a good Psychic for a hundred and twenty-eight peasants. That exchange was the Psychic Project in one line.
Sobiesansky later grafted Skarde's living head into his own torso beside Sven and Baltix. During the alchemist's last battle, Gyllyn's Psychic rapier briefly freed all three from his control. They attacked Sobiesansky's mind and gave Frolix time to survive. Skarde died when Gyllyn destroyed the body holding them.
